Life Canvas of Karen Sisk
I was born on the day Grandma Moses died, Dec 13, 1961, in Chesterfield, S.C I came into the world protected by a biological mom that gave me life. Adoption was already the plan before I arrived and it was the best decision. I have lived in Warner Robins since 1966.

I had started about the age of 7 embracing my innate talent of drawing people. I can’t explain why I started drawing portraits but it was in my genes that I later discovered. But drawing portraits came very naturally to me without any classes. When I found out in high school that I was born on the day Grandma Moses died I thought that perhaps there was a cosmic exchange from one soul leaving to another soul arriving giving me the gift of art.

My parents did not want me to go to an all-art school after high school. They were from the greatest generation and art was not the accepted employment they wanted their daughter to go into. Something that would earn a real income like working at the base.

I did sell a few drawings in my early 20’s when we were allowed to put art work in banks on an easel and sell them through the Warner Robins Art Association. But I didn’t continue and I put art on the shelf. I did however continue to draw to keep up my skills and I became an accomplished photographer too with two permanent displays in town of my photography and awards from the Georgia National Fair.

And just like Grandma Moses waiting until her golden years to start an art career I have decided that this is what I want to do during my retirement years. I can now utilize the talent God gave me and the gene Jerry Brown, my biological father, passed down to me of drawing people I try to express my portraits in water color, acrylic and oil with oil being my first choice but constantly striving to do well in all three of these mediums and move beyond drawings and trying other subject matter.
